Patrick Reed's struggles continue in Round 3 of Masters

It was moving day Saturday at Augusta National, but Patrick Reed didn't budge.

The Masters defending champion, who started the day at 1-under par, carded a third-round 74 to put his repeat hopes in peril.

“Absolute struggle,” Reed said. “Struggled all day.”

Reed struck the ball well, hitting 13 of 14 fairways — his most of the week. The issue, however, came on the putting surface. The Augusta State product needed 33 putts, three-putting three times.

Following Friday’s round, Reed remained hopeful about a weekend charge. That didn’t happen, as his putter abandoned him with second-nine bogeys on Nos. 10, 11, 16 and 18.

Barring a historical Sunday performance, Reed’s bid to become the first back-to-back champion since Tiger Woods (2001 and 2002) ended Saturday.
