Club member Jeff Knox plays with Thongchai Jaidee as marker

Augusta’s Jeff Knox shot his second consecutive 5-over-par 77 while serving as Augusta National Golf Club’s noncompeting marker Sunday.

Knox, 52, was off in the day’s first group with Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee, who closed with 72.

On Saturday, Knox was paired with Steve Stricker, who had 73.

“He just didn’t putt well today,” Knox’s wife, Catherine, said after Sunday’s round.

A marker is required when there is an odd number of players in the field after the cut. He goes off with the last-place player.

Knox, who has served as the club’s marker since 2002, is not allowed to speak to the media after his rounds. But Knox’s wife, who followed him during the round, said he shot 77 on Sunday.

The highlight of the round came at No. 18 when Knox hit a hybrid for his second shot to within 4 feet and made the putt for birdie.

When Jaidee was asked about Knox’s closing birdie, he joked that “he’s a member; he knows the course better than me.

“It was nice to play with him,” Jaidee said. “He’s a very nice guy. I enjoyed the pairing. It was the first time I played with a member.”
