Jazz Janewattananond said getting a birdie on No. 18 on Thursday afternoon, to cap off a 3-under-par 69 opening round, was a great way to finish his Masters debut.

Janewattananond comes to Augusta in search for his first PGA Tour win, and he’s in contention here after hitting 12 of the 18 greens in regulation and 71 percent (10 of 14) of the fairways on Thursday.

Standing at 1 over after consecutive bogeys on 11 and 12, the Thai standout made birdies on four of his final six holes. He also didn’t have a three-putt green. His score put him in a tie for ninth place after the first wave of tee times. He is scheduled to start the second round at 11:16 a.m.

“I mean, I think the golf course will play a bit different because it rained today, and I think the weather is going to turn out for us on the weekend, so we'll see how much it changed,” Janewattananond. “I'm looking forward to it.”
