Sergio's even dozen

That was some seriously bad timing.

Sergio Garcia was among the players who endorse TaylorMade golf equipment to wear a shirt in the Cadillac Championship on Sunday with the number 17 on the back. The number refers to the average yards the company's newest 3-wood is supposed to carry.

A double-digit number is last thing Garcia needed to have on his back Sunday.

The Spaniard made 12 on the par-4 third hole in a round of 76 at TPC Blue Monster. It was his highest score since he made 11 in Memphis last year - also on the third hole.

At least he didn't make a 17 on No. 17 while wearing the 17 on his back on Sunday.

To his credit, Garcia battled back instead of quitting as some players have been known to do. He followed the 12 with pars on the next three holes then birdied Nos. 7 and 9.

By the time he got to the devilish Blue Monster 18th hole, Garcia had his round back to 2-over for the day. He then put his second shot in the water, made double bogey and signed for his 76.

Afterward, he was in no mood to chat with reporters.

"No interviews," Garcia said. "I don't have the energy today. Sorry, guys."
