The hardest holes of the first round

The first two holes of Amen Corner showed their teeth in the first round of the Masters Tournament.

Golfers struggled at Nos. 11 and 12, making them the two hardest holes of the day. At the par-4 11th, most golfers shied away from the pin, which sat tucked behind the pond on the left-hand side. White Dogwood yielded just two birdies and played to a 4.474 average, making it the most difficult hole of the day.

Things didn't get any easier for golfers at Golden Bell. The 155-yard, par-3 hole featured a pin on the right side, making it a true risk-reward hole. Players like Miguel Angel Jimenez, Louis Oosthuizen and Adam Scott each found water at No. 12. The hole, which allowed just six birdies, played to a 3.423 average.

The average score for the day was 74.47. Only six holes played under par, including all four par-5 holes. No. 2 was the easiest hole, averaging 4.68 strokes.
