Paul Lawrie visits Augusta's Patch

Paul Lawrie, who opened with 3-under-par 69 in the first round of the Masters Tournament, made a visit to see old friends at Augusta Municipal Golf Course, better known as The Patch, on Tuesday.

Lawrie is from Aberdeen, Scotland, as is Brian Hendry, who took over as the new leasee of The Patch in 2011, and Ronald McDonald, who came with Hendry to Augusta and is The Patch's pro.

"They asked us to come up and have a look around," Lawrie said after his round on Thursday.. "They are friends of mine from a long, long time ago."

Lawrie said he first meet Hendry in the late 1980s and knew McDonald even before that. When he met Hendry, Lawrie was a club pro at an area course.

Lawrie signed autographs and posed for pictures with surprised golfers at The Patch on his visit Tuesday. Lawrie didn't play the course but saw it.

And what did he make of it?

"I think it will take him a little bit of time to get it where he wants it.," Lawrie said. "It's good. It's a nice layout and the clubhouse is lovely. I'm sure they'll do a good job. They're good lads. Hopefully, they'll do well.
