Woods off early with morning practice round
After a late tee time Monday, Tiger Woods and Mark O’Meara were off to an early start this morning.
Teeing off at 8:05 a.m., the pairing began on No. 1.
A highlight on Woods’ opening six holes was a birdie at No. 5. After his drive hit the left side of the fairway, the four-time Masters champion hit an approach shot to about 12 feet above the hole. He rolled in the putt, earning applause from patrons.
“If he putts like that, who knows what will happen this week,” said Joe Thompson, of Portland, Ore. “Heck, Tiger just might win his fifth.”
Woods and O’Meara stayed on No. 5 green for nearly 10 minutes, hitting putts throughout the undulated green.
After birdieing No. 5, Woods found the green on the par-3 sixth hole, but elected not to play his shot to today’s pin placement. Instead, Woods again hit multiple putts, this time from the far left corner of the green to the top-right tier.
