With five children and 22 grandchildren, Jack Nicklaus annually rotates caddie duties at Augusta National. The one family member, however, who had never made the cut was his wife, Barbara.

That changed Thursday morning when she donned the white caddie jumpsuit for the first time and joined in the honorary starter ceremony.

“Last night I said to her, ‘I think it would be kind of fun if you would put on a caddie uniform and do that,’” Nicklaus said. “Barbara said, ‘Oh, I don't want to do that.’”

Past champions were allowed to bring one significant other to the 2020 Masters, so with no grandchild present, she gave into her husband's wish.

“I don't know that I can afford to get home after her fee,” Nicklaus said.
