Bubba Watson says Georgia golfers 'all good enough' to win Masters

Bubba Watson was the first former University of Georgia golfer to win a green jacket.

Could there be another in the near future?

“That’s always a guess,” said Watson, who tied for 38th. “They’re all good enough. They’ve all shown that they’re good enough to play on the PGA Tour, so if you’re good enough to play on the PGA Tour you’re good enough to win. They’ve all backed it up with wins. The key is just getting your breaks, making your putts.”

Watson, the defending champion, wasn’t the top-finishing former Bulldog in this year’s Masters Tournament. Russell Henley earned that distinction by placing 21st.

“It takes people longer than others sometimes to figure things out,” said Henley, who shot 71 in the final round. “I definitely feel good going around this course, and I definitely feel like I can compete. It definitely gives me confidence. It’s just a matter of cleaning up some holes here and there, but I think that’s just going to take some time for me.”

Chris Kirk finished tied for 33rd in his second Masters. Erik Compton was 51st at 5-over par. Brendon Todd and Brian Harman missed the cut.

Six ex-Bulldogs in this year’s field and potentially more next April means there’s opportunity for a former Georgia golfer to join Watson as a Masters champion.

“We can all do it, it’s just can you do it at the moment? You only get one chance a year to do it,” Watson said.
