Bulldogs fans take pride in Bubba Watson's win
University of Georgia fans celebrated another Masters Tournament win for Bubba Watson on Sunday, who won another green jacket for his alma mater.
“It’s awesome to get a second win for a (University of) Georgia guy,” said Brady Hughes, of Evans. “He deserves it.”
Watson took a short victory lap around the 18th green with his son, Caleb, in his arms, giving high-fives to a crowd dotted with UGA red-and-black shirts and hats.
Watson and his wife, Angie, adopted Caleb one week before the 2012 Masters, the first of Watson’s victories at Augusta National Golf Club.
Michael Tredwell, of Montezuma, Ga., said Watson, who never had a golf lesson growing up, has been a model for his children.
“My hat’s off to him,” Tredwell said. “Wonderful player and great guy. No one deserves it more than he does.”
Hundreds of patrons gathered to watch Watson slip on his second green jacket on the practice putting green.
“It’s always great to see a Georgia connection win the Masters,” said Schuyler Millar, of Atlanta, as he waited for the ceremony Sunday evening.
“I think the win means it’s another huge step forward for him,” Millar said. “To see him play consistent is a great thing,”
Hughes, who witnessed Watson’s first win, noticed a change in demeanor.
“He seems a lot more calm and cool,” Hughes said.
