Canadians support DeLaet
FACE UP: Canadian golfer Graham DeLaet’s fans were easy to spot at Thursday’s opening round. Eight friends wore green T-shirts with a sketch of his face on the front. On the back, a yellow pin flag marked DeLaet’s hometown of Weyburn in an outline of Saskatchewan.
“We did red and white for the Presidents Cup,” said Jeff Will, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. “This time, we did Augusta colors.”
Will ordered 500 T-shirts identical to those worn by the group at the Masters. He sold the T-shirts to benefit children’s health care organizations.
OLD-FASHIONED: The manually operated leaderboard was a step back in time for Steve Price, of Charlotte, N.C.
“I really like the old-time way they post the numbers,” he said.
He stopped by occasionally to double-check scores. Price thought he saw Steven Bowditch make a birdie putt on No. 1, only to find out at the leaderboard that it was for par.
“It’s good to confirm the scores,” Price said. “I’m also trying to keep up with my favorites, like Webb Simpson since I’m from Charlotte.”
