Fans find champ Bubba Watson under oak tree
Brittany Pawlak quickly waved over her boyfriend, Jeremy Pinion, to the big oak tree Sunday at Augusta National Golf Club.
Two-time Masters champion and University of Georgia graduate Bubba Watson was conducting an interview before defending his title this week.
“That’s so cool,” Pawlak, who hopes to attend UGA’s veterinarian school, said as Pinion snapped a picture. “We literally just walked up and saw him.”
Pawlak said in her seven trips to Augusta National, she has seen Vijay Singh walking down the fairway, but this is the closest she has gotten to a Masters champion.
Watson was speaking about this year’s Masters field, betting burritos on the course to keep rounds with friends interesting, and growing the sport through the second annual Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals, which he said one day could include his son, Caleb.
“Bubba is such a good guy,” said Pawlak, who considers Watson her favorite golfer, along with three-time Masters champion Phil Mickelson. “He is so down to earth.”
Pawlak said it is moments like these she is proud to call Augusta home.
“People say spring break during Masters Week,” said Pawlak, who attended the Drive, Chip and Putt with her boyfriend’s sister, Jessica Pinion, and friend Bobby Bradbury. “But we say Masters.”
