Steve Stricker’s Masters Tournament preparation wasn’t about crowding his schedule with tournaments.

Instead, last weekend’s Houston Open was his first tournament since Doral in early March.

In Houston, Stricker posted 68-69 the first two rounds before finishing tied for 24th. Going into his 14th Masters, the Wisconsin native hopes his limited playing time helps him.

Stricker has been dealing with a herniated disk in his neck and back in recent years and believes the rest has been good for his health and his ability to stay fresh.

“I think the lack of play has definitely helped in that department,” Stricker said. “I feel as good as I’ve ever felt, to tell you the truth. I’ve worked out a lot more over the wintertime, lost some weight. Physically, I feel a lot better.”

Stricker planned on getting in some work Monday, but storms suspended and then canceled play. He found a positive even in that.

“It’s even good for a lot of players to have (Monday) off,” Stricker said. “Guys, especially who played last week, it kind of forces them in a way to rest and get two good days of work in before the start of the tournament.”
