Masters patrons seek out shade in warm opening round
Delaney Anderson nestled his chair beneath a large pine tree along the ninth fairway around 10 a.m. Thursday.
The first thing he noticed about the spot?
“It’s shady,” said Anderson, a business consultant from Atlanta.
With temperatures in the high 80s by midday, many Masters patrons carried bottles of water, sometimes refilling them at course water fountains.
From his shady perch, Anderson could watch players start their rounds on No. 1 and hit their shots to the ninth green.
“All the balls are coming right around here,” he said.
Anderson was looking forward to seeing Phil Mickelson play through and the 1:48 p.m. start of Tiger Woods, who he watched with his children during Wednesday’s Par-3 Contest.
“I’m hoping for the best for him,” Anderson said.
