Masters ratings dip on ESPN compared to last year
ESPN saw its Masters ratings dip over the first two rounds compared to last year’s coverage.
Over the two days of telecasts on the network, ESPN averaged a 1.6 U.S. household rating and 2.2 million viewers, both down from last year’s averages of a 2.5 rating and 3.5 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media.
Friday’s coverage earned a 1.8 U.S. household rating and averaged 2.5 million viewers, up from a 1.5 rating and 2 million viewers on Thursday.
The decreased ratings coincide with the absence of Tiger Woods in Augusta for the first time since 1994. Woods recently had back surgery that caused him to miss the tournament.
This year’s Masters also marks the first time since 1994 that Woods and Phil Mickelson aren’t competing over the same weekend. Mickelson missed the cut by one stroke at 5-over.
