Sand penalty costly for Luke Donald
Already mired in a rough first day, Luke Donald committed a mistake that cost him two more strokes in his first round Thursday at the Masters.
After leaving his shot in the bunker on the ninth hole, Donald touched the sand with his club and was assessed a two-stroke penalty. He made 8 on the hole.
Donald finished the day at 7-over 79.
The 36-year-old has made seven of nine cuts at Augusta National Golf Club in his career, and he finished tied for fourth in 2011. He has three career top-10 finishes at the tournament.
